
A necessary precondition for sound environmental management at Piraeus Group is the measurement and continuous monitoring of its environmental impacts. Environmental impacts are also defined as the Group’s “footprint” on the environment, which is affected through the consumption of natural resources, the emission of greenhouse gasses, waste disposal etc.

The assessment of the operational environmental aspects indicates that the most important environmental impact of the Bank is due to electricity consumption. For this reason, Piraeus Bank designs and implements various environmental projects, aimed at reducing the total electricity consumption. These projects, combined with other pilot programs, proved particularly effective.

The constant decrease that has been observed in the past years in the consumption of paper, ink cartridges and toners, reflects to a large extent, the improvement in the environmental behavior of the Bank’s employees. |

Piraeus Bank has integrated green criteria in its procurement policy, since almost all requirements in A3 and A4 paper are covered by recycled and chlorine free paper; the fleet of corporate vehicles is being replaced with low fuel- consumption vehicles; eco-friendly cleaning products with eco-label certification and biodegradable bags are used in selected administration buildings, while electrical and electronic equipment is gradually being replaced with low energy- consumption devices.
